T. has made homemade kimchi and i devour it for the first time — by olivia farina

Michelle Zauner compares aging kimchi
in glorious brine
to aging in life
at least, i think that is the allusion
i am pulling.

life is good kimchi;
all good kimchi is like life,
the body turns sugar to acid,
and stores well in the fridge
ready to be main course or side dish,
some to be devoured immediately,
others to stay,
brine refreshed and burped,
but in all ways delicious.

you cannot ferment your feelings away,
rather you should share them,
make pancakes with them,
eat them alone until someone catches you,
fingers in the jar,
stuffing yourself full of beautiful,
delicious life.
